Today's Topic: Why do you think being a student in a larger, inner-city public school is a lot harder than being a student in Pierre, SD? What are the adversities students in those schools have to overcome?

Because they have a lot of things to worry about. They have to wonder if anyone has a gun or a knife. They have to overcome things like gangs and violence.

ReplyDeleteI think that they have it harder because they have to worry about drugs, gangs, violence, and knives.

Because there are a lot more students so it may be harder to get along with people if you have troubles making friends. Also there are a lot of different ethnicities so if you say something a little bit off it may offend someone, even if you didn't mean for it to. Also, there may be more violence in the schools that you have to avoid.

More than just people happens in bigger places. Vandalism, crime, and other violent circumstances occur there. In Pierre, these problems still happen only not as frequent. Not much is known outside of small towns. This is how it is and it stinks.
ReplyDeleteI think that would be hard cause there would be more rules and guidlines to fallow. There would be more people you would be compared to and expected to be the best we can be for everything. It would be really hard to fit in with everyone.

I think it is easier to be in a smaller school because, we have less students per teacher. Therefore, there is more time for individual help as opposed to having 58 kids in a class, and not having any time at all for individuals. Kids who are in bigger schools also may have trouble fitting in, as the overwhelming amount of students could be intimadating for some. Not to mention the crime rate would be higher in a bigger school compared to a small one like us here in Pierre.

They would have to worry about gangs, weapons, violence, drugs and other problems. It's hard for kids to concentrate in an enviroment were all they are concerned about is their safety.

I think it would be harder because there are many more people that go to that school. It would be less safer there then here. Because of the number of people, you probably wouldnt know everyone and it would be harder to fit in with everyone and all the different social groups! Bulling would also be a bigger problem in larger schools because bullys are less likey to get caught.

I think that it is a lot harder, because there is a lot more peer pressure. There are a lot more drugs and violence. They have to overcome things like drugs, weapons, school violence, bullies, etc..

I think that the people in inner city schools have it a lot harder because there are soooo many more people. Plus the fact that there are so many more ethnicities and different beliefs in those areas. You could get hurt for saying something simple, or even if you're new to the school kids may want to pound it into your head that they are in charge, not you. Plus since they are probably a lot different because it's so much bigger than Pierre, and some teachers there may want to help as much as they can, but others just want you gone. It's not as easy for them as it kind of is for us.
ReplyDeleteI think it would be harder because there would be way more kids and there would be less one on one time. In Pierre we have alot of good one on one time. It is also more dangerous in large schools with gang activity and what not. Personally, i would prefer not to get shot, knifed or shanked at school. Again, the learning advantages are way better too
ReplyDeleteI think that it would be harder because there is so much more diversity. With more diversity there is more chance for people to not like people because of certian ethnicities and such. Also going to a bigger school means living in a big city wich will have more bad neighbor hoods, and things such as poverty. Growing up in neighborhoods liek that means that you are more likely to bring weapons and things to school. I would not like going to a really larg school.
ReplyDeleteI think it would be harder to be a student going to an inner city, because of all of the violence that you are around; Like rascim, gangs, fights and just living there in general. Living in Pierre and going to school here is such an advantage because all of the oppertunities that we have.
ReplyDeleteWell their is more violence with racism or gang violence, And their is more people for that.
ReplyDeleteI think, if you are in a bigger school, you might have not the close teacher contact, so they aren't able to help you individually as if you are in a small school. You also might not have as much opportunity to play sports or extra curriclar.
